Finding out more

 (Intermediate/Advanced Level)

Students should work with a partner or circulate.
They each introduce themselves, then use the prompts given to become acquainted.

     

Find out:

Their name
Age
Where they come from
Marital status
About their family
Hobbies/interests
Taste in music
     

Example of present tense questions you could ask.

Where do you come from? (Name of village/city and Country)
What is it like there? (Describe village/town/city)
What do your parents do? (job/work)
     

Now ask about your partner�s past:

Where they were born
What they studied
How long they studied for
The last time they used English
Where they went on holiday
What they were doing before they came here
     

Now ask about your partner�s future:

What they hope to learn in the next few months
Whatthey are going to do in their spare time
Who will they write letters to
Where will they visit during their stays


Films and Plays

 (Lower Intermediate +)

This is a simple questionnaire that can be given to individuals, pairs or small groups.
It is useful to stimulate interest in the topic of films, discuss likes and dislikes,and routines.
Feedback could be made interesting by practising reported speech.

What types of films do you like? (True stories/ sci-fi / romance)
What is the best film you have ever seen? What was the plot?
Have you seen any plays at the theatre? If yes, which ones.
Which do you think is best, live plays or films? What are the advantages and disadvantages of each?
Who is your favourite film star/ actor/ actress?
In your opinion, what characteristics does a good actor/actress have?
Have your ever acted in a play?
If you could be in either a film or a play what character would you like to be?
